ABOVE ONLY DEVOTIONAL JANUARY 3 2018 RECEIVE THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE OF THE LORD

Above only devotional

Date: Wednesday, JANUARY 3

Topic: Receive the Strength and Courage of the Lord

Text:

Joshua 1:5-7 (NIV)

No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.

Message:

For us to be and do all that God desires of us this year, we need His strength and His courage. Courage is ultimately tied to your consciousness and perspective of things, people and situations. David’s perspective of Goliath was different from that of King Saul and all the Israelites. This year, you will maintain a God perspective in every condition and situation of your life.

In our text above, God assured Joshua that He would be with him as He was with Moses. However, for you and me, God assures us that He will be with us as He was with Jesus. In the same way that Moses led Israel out of Egypt and then handed over to Joshua to continue leading God’s people, Jesus has brought us out of sin and the devil’s dominion and has commissioned and empowered us to continue His work and legacy on this earth. As Joshua needed strength and courage to continue on from Moses, we similarly need strength and courage to continue Christ’s work on this earth.

Last year, we extensively studied the reality that a major source of our strength is derived from knowing God. This year, you will grow in your knowledge of God and you will become stronger in God. God will be your strength. When God is the strength of your life, you will be afraid of no one, Psa.27:1. You will be more conscious of the greater One that is in you than he that is in the world. All things are possible for you by the strength of Christ in you.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, right now I receive Your abundant strength and courage to be and do all that You desire of me this year.
